De La Salle News January 2022

Hello and welcome to this first edition of the De La Salle news – keeping you in touch with latest developments and opportunities.

In with the new

A huge welcome to Dennis Concannon who  took over as Club Chairman in November and an equally huge thank you to John McLellan-Grant who stood aside after 13 great years in charge. And welcome to Syd Parkinson who has re-joined the Committee.

Recent functions

December saw a ramping up of functions in the run up to Christmas and the New Year. The function room saw large numbers of bookings but we still saw some traditional events taking place.

Our own Bezza entertained the children at their Christmas party and was joined by a very convincing visitor from Lapland who brought selection boxes for the children. And again Bezza took control on Boxing Day with some great singing sensations in the annual “Stars in your mince pies” event.

Future functions

Whilst the function room bookings thrive, we want to reserve time for member functions. To do this we are seeking volunteers for a new “Social Committee”. We already have two volunteers so if you have some ideas and want to get involved just email delasallesportssocial@gmail.com to let us know.

Regular functions

We also have some regular functions as we try to increase the social side of the club – and members are always welcome. For those wishing to lose a few festive pounds we have a weight management class each Thursday from 6th January 2022 – start times will be posted on our website, so feel free to come along. We have a gentle exercise class on Tuesday mornings from 10 am for this who want to keep those joints moving. And for those potential “Chase” or “Mastermind” contestants, we have a quiz and bingo every Monday evening starting at 8.45 pm

Surplus Christmas decorations?

As we all pack away our Christmas decorations until next year – if you are de-cluttering and getting rid of anything that you think might help spruce up our Club next year please let Katie behind the bar know and we would be glad to take them off your hands

Update on the building work

You will have seen the changes between the function room and community room. This is almost complete – just waiting for a ramp to make it fully accessible and a couple of small “snagging” repairs. This will then provide a separate entrance and toilets for those who book the function room. This means that the member’s lounge and toilets will remain separate and for use by members only. Next up will be the much-anticipated beer garden in the near future. Furniture is already on order.

Sports opportunities

We all know about the mixed successes of our football, rugby, bowling and darts teams. But we must also have some superstars with a cue who could help establish a pool team and a snooker team? If you are interested in joining or organising a team, please step forward now and email expressing your interest now to delasallesportssocial@gmail.com

Looking ahead

As new chairman, Dennis and the committee are committed to further developing both the sports and social aspects of the club. We are interested in your views, suggestion and participation in helping members get the most from the club. Volunteers and suggestions for positive change to delasallesportssocial@gmail.com please?
