De La Salle Sports & Social Club news – February 2023

Use your members card to save money:

As with businesses across the country, we are now having to respond to increases in supplier costs. Up to now we have managed these by increasing prices in the function room bar and making limited increases in the Members lounge bar. More recent increases mean that we will have to take a different approach.

From the 1st of March. bar purchases made without presenting a membership card will be in line with existing Function room prices. However, members who produce their membership card when paying will continue to enjoy the existing discounted prices, This means a saving of up to 50p per drink!

What’s next? Can all members please search out their membership cards? If you can’t find it, ask behind the bar or email delasallesportssocial@gmail.com and Marilyn will arrange a replacement. Can you let friends who have not yet re-joined know about these changes so that they can decide whether to re-join and enjoy the reduced rates or pay the higher prices plus the £1 non-members fee.

New dates for your 2023 diaries:

On 4th March we have someone who definitely “wants to entertain you”. Tribute artist Tony Lewis as Robbie Williams will be your “Rock DJ”, wooing all the De La “Angels” making you “Feel” as if you “Rule the World” and that you “Love your Life”. There is no “Better Man” to make you believe that Robbie is indeed in the room.

Tickets are £7 for Members and £10 for non-members. These will be available in the Members lounge between 7.15pm and 9.00pm on 1st February and 3rd February. Limited numbers so please don’t miss these slots. Your membership will be checked against the list, as well as the members you are buying tickets for.

On Friday 17th March we are marking St Patrick’s day with reduced prices on Guinness – £3.50 per pint, a Guinness and shot of Jamesons – £6.00 and Baileys Irish Cream – £3.00. Enjoy!

Then on Mother’s Day (19th March) we have our Motown afternoon – although you don’t need to be a mum to join us. Like last year there will be great music for you to dance the afternoon away.  Ticket only event – £2 for members and £5 for non-members and will be on sale from 1st March. Tickets include a free glass of prosecco or soft drink on arrival.

Update on recent events:

On 18th December in the afternoon our younger members – and some energetic adult members enjoyed a fantastic Children’s Christmas Party. Bezza provided the music, masterly organised the games and made sure that everybody got Christmas celebrations started with lots of fun. And even Santa made a special appearance with a gift for each very excited child.

Then on Boxing Day Bezza was back in charge at the “Stars in their Mince Pies” event searching out hidden talent within the Club. Congratulations to the winner Natalie Cadogan and runner up Jake Peach who definitely showed their hidden skills. We look forward to seeing you both on TV as their singing careers continue to develop. The event raised £2,000 which has been donated to the family of our dearly departed friend and bar staff Dionne Kniverton. And finally on New Year’s Eve we had our end of 2022 family disco. Another evening of fun to see out the old year and prepare for 2023.

Seeking a new Treasurer:

Are you keen to see the Club continue to thrive? Do you have an hour or so each week to spare? And are you numerate? If you have answered yes to these three questions than please read on. If not please accept my apologies for bothering you.

As you may be aware either from the AGM or conversation in the Club, Sue Crook is standing down from her role as Club Treasurer. Sue has played a massive role in the Club’s development and we are all very grateful for her commitment and support over many years.

We are therefore looking for a replacement treasurer from within our Club membership. Like managing our own personal finances, many regular transactions are done through direct debits and payments are mostly conducted electronically – in our case through BACS. We need to maintain records and these are held on a spreadsheet which needs to be kept up to date and you will need to keep the committee informed each month of the income and expenditure headlines. No need to be an accountant for this role but you do need to be organised and able to keep on top of the numbers.

If you might be interested then please contact Marilyn or Dennis by email at delasallesportssocial@gmail.com and we can answer any questions you may have and discuss it in a bit more detail.
